Indian River Community College and
the Living Science Partners recently received
the 2004 NAWeb “Best
of the Web” Educational Web Site of the Year
Award.
Congressmen Mark Foley (R-Fla.),
Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.), and Dave Weldon (R-Fla.)
attended the awards ceremony, held at the Health
Science Center Atrium & Auditorium of Indian
River Community College.
The site, http://www.living-science.org,
was developed with Think Technologies as the Technology
Partner. Think Technologies is a Microsoft Certified
Partner and leading provider of custom online education
solutions.

developed innovative sites with specific objectives
to provide resources that encourage student
learning in elective and advanced science courses.

Web Conference,
NAWeb2004, is an internationally recognized
conference founded in 1995 to encourage innovative
and practical uses of the World Wide Web. NAWeb
promotes teaching, learning and extending the
reach of existing campuses through the creation
of "virtual" campuses
that are unique and exciting. This mission
applies not only to traditional educational
institutions, but also to the corporate and
private world. As part of its mission of the
conference program, NAWeb2004 sponsors the
NAWeb Award for Educational Site of the Year.

The
NAWeb Educational Site of the Year trophy was
awarded during the NAWeb2004 conference. Any
educational site on the web may be nominated
for this award. A jury of judges reviewed each
site according to innovation, creativity, and
the practicality of the nominated site. Five
finalists were selected for presentation to the
attendees at the conference during the awards
ceremony. From these five finalists the NAWeb2004
Educational Site of the Year was announced. Each
of the four runner-ups received a special NAWeb
Award's citation.

for secondary and postsecondary teachers interested
in science to work with other teachers in their
field,” Davies said. “They can now
effectively interact directly with their students
and professionals in the international scientific
community.”

About Living Science Partners
In 1999, Indian River Community College initiated
the Living Science (LS) program to bring Web-based,
interactive “living science” into
K-12 classrooms. Using cutting-edge technology,
scientists interact with students in classrooms
without leaving their laboratories to five students

Student enrollment in IRCC online math and science
courses has an increased significantly because
of LS.
