| The
Living Science Interactive Portal is a membership
based community web site combining customized
ADSI personalization and membership features
with community portal services (Instant Messenger
/ Discussion Groups / WebMail) to build a virtual
meeting place for teachers, students, and the
science community. Content is managed with
a customized content server, featuring automated
importing of live XML news feeds, a simple "Word"-
like content editor, and a complete suite of
content management pages. Flash based eLearning
programs reinforce content with engaging interactive
presentations covering everything from basic
math skills to advanced quantum theory. Articles,
resources, surveys, and all user functions
are managed through a simple DHTML-based interface
employing ADSI, and group based security. |

User
friendliness is an enormously important
aspect of interface design as a system's
productivity, utility, and value are
directly related to the system's usability
and user-friendliness. In a user friendly
system, internal users will not have
issues with managing system data, and
site visitors are able to find the
timely information they need. These
issues were central during the development
of the Living Science project.

Interactive
presentations reinforce site content
with fun, interactive activities designed
to engage students with visually simulating,
entertaining animations. The eLearning
presentations cover everything from
basic math skills to advanced physics
concepts. Interactive quizzes bring
excitement to learning and reward students
for correct answers, while other presentations
explain science phenomena like black
holes and quantum superposition.

Living Science site has been developed
with growth, security, and stability
in mind. The flexible architecture
combines a wealth of information that
empowers teachers to reach students
with compelling, targeted content.
Assessments, interactive presentations,

content, increasing the depth and ultimate

interfaces make site content easy to

and other approval mechanisms guarantee
content integrity.
